Uncle Bill reports:
Well, today was all about three things...Wind, Kazoos and people.

The wind was the bad part. It came out of the west at a steady 20 mph with higher gusts. We bounced around the highway like bobble dolls. Every time I lifted my head above the windshield it felt like my head was going to get ripped off. So I stopped doing that.

The kazoos have become an obsession. Whenever we stop we start passing them out to the folks in the area be it a restaurant, gas station, whatever. No one has yelled at us yet. The worst response we got was the look two girls gave Pat after he tried to give them kazoos and dropped his bike. (he wasn't moving at the time). We all stood around laughing, of course and Greg video taped the whole thing.

But it was the people we met that really made the day. First it was the guy in the convenience store who kicked in $10 just because. Then there was the car that passed us with their "thumbs up" out the window. At the lunch stop in Ogalala they came over, gave us $20 and drove off.

And a friend of Moe's, Tim Rogers, (the guy who got Moe into technical theatre way back when) who is the Set Designer/Td for the Western Nebraska Community College here in Scott's Bluff, invited us to the opening night of Theatre West's production of Meshuggah-Nuns. It was good fun and served as a reminder of what theatre in small towns is all about. After the show they got Moe to make a short speech (and a shorter one from me) and then they passed the hat. They raised over $225 for the ride. I want to thank Tim Cochran Artistic Director, Terry Rogers Set Designer/TD, Cindy Rogers Musical Director and the cast (for letting us steal their thunder on opening night) Darla Heggem, Susan K. Selvey, Rita Stinner, Kathy Simpson and Jim Kimbrough.

Thursday we have a short 200 mile hop to Rapid city. There will be plenty of sightseeing and cruising on the way. We're no longer trying to get somewhere. We're here.

Grits reports:
Bill will fill you all in about today. For me it was bad news. I spoke to Kate, and our sweet dog Cheyenne had to be put down today. I’m leaving for home in the morning. I’ll leave Porqua with Razz so he can get his picture at Mount Rushmore—he’s such a photo hog (Porqua I mean).

It has been great riding with the Long Reach Long Riders. I’ll miss y’all.

Grits
