| Heading for Maine | On Mt Washington | On Mt Washington | Belle Vista Inn | Tire Make-up |
The weather continues to cooperate. It's a bit warmer this morning but the skies are blue. The destination today is Bar Harbor Maine.
A quick run from St. Johnsbury VT over to Littleton NH gets us off the interstate and onto Rte 302. But first we need to stop, get fuel and have a look at DGB's bike. His rear fender is rubbing against the tire. So we pull the fender out a bit to try and get some clearance. But, someone asks, how will we know it's not still rubbing? We mark the tire says someone else. No chalk around, no white pentels, but Christine does have some makeup. A quick debate on what color eye shadow to use and we're back on our way.
Rt. 302 runs from Littleton to Conway by way of Mt. Washington and Crawford Notch. It's not listed as a scenic highway on the maps but it should be. The White Mountains rise up on either side of the road in great granite cliffs. It's a great ride. By the time we get to Conway DGB's rear fender is acting up again so we stop at a bike shop for repairs. Meanwhile, I go find my rental car. Then we all meet up for lunch.
After lunch we split up. One groups heads for Bar Harbor, Maine while another backtracks on 302 to go climb Mt. Washington. You've seen those ubiquitous bumper stickers..."This car climbed Mt Washington, right? Well, they let bikes up there also. While all this is going on I'm in the car headed south for Boston. I've a plane to catch. I need to go to Philly to see Emma, my youngest daughter, in her show. I'll return to catch up with the group on Saturday morning.
See you then.

We left St. Johnsbury with a quick run down I-93 where we picked up Hwy 302 in Littleton. 302 to Conway was Great! A beautiful ride through the mountains of NH. On our way we discovered an mechanical isue with one of the bikes which led to the quest for a dealership. We found one in a Kawasaki Dealer in Conway, and they provided no help.
We had lunch at Banners (Conway again) the sent Bill off in a rental car to Boston to catch a plane to Philly.
Since we were unable to get the ailing bike repaired the Group split. One went off to Mt. Washington the other set off on a quest for a dealership.
The day got hot and long 95+ degrees, but we found dealerships in Lewiston ME a Harly and Honda right next to each other. the bike was worked on all riders bike type needs were met as for dealerships. We handed out kazoos, but did not manage to take many pictures
We made it to Bar Harbor, where we found our motel to be quaint and cozy. Dinner at the Log Cabin resturant was well...unfortunate and I will leave it at that.
Mt. Washington guys said it was GREAT!! lots of curves and beautiful views.
