Moe, Christine and I went over to Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon Indiana on Saturday to represent the LRLR at the SRSR event... tricycle races.
We had great riding weather from Corbin Kentucky all the way over, until about 20 minutes before the end of the ride, when a stinging rain began pelting us. We got a room at the Evansville Plaza hotel, just by the airport. After dinner with Dana at a great Irish restaurant in the Aztar Casino complex, we wandered into the casino, where Moe won $100.
After getting back to the hotel, Moe decided to stretch his luck by shooting pool with yours truly. His luck did not hold out. I only wish Bill had been there, as I might have finally been able to string together a streak of wins against him! I think in all fairness to Moe, he was probably distracted by the karaoke singers, who absolutely _had_ to be the worst singers, ever. Even worse than the time in Rapid City. They were horrible, with the exception of two ladies who turned out to be sisters, and one of them was a pro singer. Everyone else sounded like nails on a chalkboard!
Early Saturday, we rode over to Mount Vernon from Evansville, stopped to wash the previous day's grime from our bikes, and rolled into the school parking lot just in time for the festivities to begin.
The pictures show the fun to be had when you mix teenagers and tricycles in Relay, Sprint, and Enduro races (or, as Dana said over the P.A. with a lot of reverb added "Ennnnduuuuuuurrrrrrro" races). You can see determination in some faces, puzzlement in others, and sheer terror in the rest, but one theme was predominant... FUN! By the time the Enduro race was winding down, the students were dousing each other with ice water in the 90+ degrees, and a plot quickly hatched to get Dana with the ice water remaining in the largest cooler. A sneak attack, and mission accomplished!
All in all, a very rewarding weekend. Dana and his students did a heck of a good job with this event, and they were all great hosts and hostesess. They are to be commended for a great success! They ended up raising $2000 for Behind The Scenes.
The 3 LRLR riders showed off their spiffy new "Charity Ride" flags with the LRLR website. Hopefully that will generate some interest and hits on the website.
Same time, same place next year? Moe is already planning to build a "Trike From Hell" that he can enter into the events!
Sunburned and happy,
